A szívócsonk feladata, hogy a levegő-üzemanyag keveréket a membránszelepen keresztül eljuttassa a motorba.
Egy motor összhatásfokát több részleges hatásfok szorzata adja meg, például:
- térfogati hatásfok
- termodinamikai hatásfok
- mechanikai hatásfok
A térfogati hatásfok a ténylegesen bejutó üzemanyag-levegő keverék mennyisége és a motor lökettérfogata közötti arány.
A térfogati hatásfokot jelentősen befolyásolja a keverék útján fellépő áramlási veszteség, amely a légszűrőtől az égéstérig keletkezik. Ennek egyik legfontosabb oka az a súrlódás, amelyet a keverék (levegő-üzemanyag) az áramlás során tapasztal. Mivel a keverék teljes mennyiségének át kell haladnia a szívócsövön, annak kialakítása kulcsfontosságú a veszteségek minimalizálása érdekében. Ezért elengedhetetlen a hirtelen keresztmetszet-növekedések és az éles irányváltások elkerülése az áramlási útvonalon.
A szívócsonk másik fontos szerepe, hogy friss keverék tartályként is működik: mivel a mozgásban lévő keveréknek időre van szüksége a megálláshoz, amikor a membránszelep zár, a keverék egy része a szívócsőben halmozódik fel, és nyomást gyakorol a membránra. Emiatt minden szívócső rendelkezik egy meghatározott fordulatszám-tartománnyal, amelyben a legnagyobb hatásfokot képes nyújtani – ezt nevezzük hangolt szívócsőnek.
Ezen kívül a szívócsonk rögzíti a karburátort a motorblokkhoz vagy a hengerhez, csillapítja a rezgéseket a blokk és a karburátor között, ezáltal megakadályozza az üzemanyag-levegő emulzió keletkezését a karburátor úszóházában.
- Ez a látszólag egyszerű alkatrész tehát komoly tervezést igényel ahhoz, hogy minden tulajdonságát maximálisan ki lehessen aknázni.
- A Malossi mérnökei ezt a feladatot tökéletesen megoldották. A cég, amely évtizedek óta fejleszt üzemanyagellátó rendszereket, új generációs robogókhoz fejlesztett ki gumiból és alumíniumötvözetből készült szívócső-sorozatot, melyet közúti és versenypályás körülmények között is teszteltek és optimalizáltak.
- A Malossi gumiból készült szívócsonkjai kompozit szerkezetűek: gyártásuk alumíniumbetétből indul ki, amelyet egy speciális, olaj- és üzemanyagálló műanyaggal burkolnak. Ez az eljárás nagyobb merevséget biztosít a rögzítési pontokon, miközben maga a szívócső test kellően rugalmas marad.
